We continue our series on nonferrous forging metals with this article, which discusses superalloys used in forged components. A general description of superalloys is followed by details of their chemistry and microstructure. Applications of forged superalloy components, forging issues and special considerations for forgers who handle superalloys are also examined. Abstract: The deformation behavior of a UdimetLi superalloy under hot compression tests was characterized in the temperature range of ~°C and strain rate range of ~20sProcessing maps were conducted at a series of strains to calculate the efficiency of hot working and to recognize the instability regions of the flow behavior.

The text of this new second edition has been completely revised and expanded with many new figures and tables added. In developing this new edition, the focus has been on providing comprehensive and practical coverage of superalloys technology.4/5(5).

The forging behaviour of hot isostatically pressed nickel-base superalloy (Mar M) compacts, reinforced with 40% volume fraction of tungsten wires, has been examined and compared with that of the non-reinforced alloy by: 3.

In the present investigation, the open-die isothermal forging of square-section billets of fibre-reinforced superalloy composites (hot isostatically pressed nickel-base superalloy compacts reinforced with 40% volume fraction of tungsten wires) at constant strain-rates was considered, with the aim of providing useful information concerning the Cited by: 2.

The typical flow behavior of R conducted on the as-hipped fine-grained compacts since the deformation data for fine-grained microstructures is needed to model deformation in both fine and partially recrystallized coarse-grained under various test conditions is presented in Fig. shape of the flow curves depends on the strain rate and by:   An apparatus for uniaxial compression testing has been developed to simulate isothermal forging conditions.

The system can apply kN loads at temperatures up to + or - 3 C in a controlled environment and at constant true strain rates between /s and 1/s. Results on the flow behavior of nickel-base superalloy compacts and composites are presented that demonstrate the Cited by: 9.

The high temperature flow behavior of a nickel-base superalloy powder compact, prepared by hot isostatic pressing has been examined by means of uniaxial compression testing in terms of the microstructures developed during plastic flow.

The tests were done isothermally at and °C and at constant true strain rates between s-1 and 1 Cited by: W. Wallace's research works with 2, citations reads, including: The Deformation and Dynamic Recrystallization in a Hot Isostatically Pressed TiAW Powder Alloy. This book is comprised of 22 chapters that explore key issues of high temperature materials in a synergistic manner.

The first chapter reflects on the growth of the superalloy industry and its technology over the past 40 years. The forging behavior of hot isostatically pressed nickel-base superalloy (Mar M) compacts, reinforced with 40% volume fraction of tungsten wires, has.

Superalloys have been defined many times by metallurgists for books and conferences, with reasonable consistency. A few of the most comprehensive definitions follow: 1.

A superalloy, or high-performance alloy, is an alloy usually based on Group VIII A. Fourthly, the HIPped composite was followed by isothermal forging at °C with a forging ratio of Finally, before microstructure analysis and mechanical properties testing, all composites were subjected to a solution heat treatment at °C for 2 h and aging treatment at °C for 1 h.

Thermomechanical processing treatments for powder compacts formed from powdered superalloy compositions having a volume fraction of gamma prime greater than 35 percent are disclosed.

Isothermal forging within critical ranges of strain rate and temperature is followed by supersolvus annealing and slow cooling treatments. An enlarged grain structure about 50 to 60 microns in size is produced.
